Teens Dieting Today

We have the highest teenage and childhood obesity rates today than at any other part of earth's long history. Almost all of the blame for this is on the fast food, low or no energy civilization that we have become. Much too often we feel that it's easier to keep our youngsters in the homes instead of being in the outdoors. The things we're doing for the protection of our young children are truly damaging to the health of the kids.

There are things however that are being done to address the problem and get our youngsters more involved, more active, and better trained about making the proper choices about diet, nutrition, fitness, and overall wellness. The challenge for most high schoolers is getting them away from the computer, cellphone, or away from the TV for some time to get active.

Even video games are getting in on the act of getting children up and active by designing games such as Play Station 2's Dance Party Revolution and the new Nintendo Wii gaming system which are taking the market rather quickly. These systems permit people, to actively have fun playing games in a static atmosphere. So we need to find a way to get youngsters off their chairs to do something productive. These games are entertaining for older people and will have the same effects in the case of activity. Who thought we'd be truly inspiring game play for exercise?

Get Outside and Get Active

Young adults learn by example and whether they like or not, they typically get pleasure from doing things as part of the family. Go rock wall climbing or mountain climbing. Go bike riding as a family. Camp in the great out doors and go hiking, boating, or biking again. Practice a new sport together. It's amazing how much fun you can have learning how scuba dive and while you're at it, neither of you will be taking in empty calories. Regardless of whether the sport you take up together does not require loads of body movement it's probably more active than sitting in front of the tv.

Have your youngster go into recreational sports team. Most of us have different sports teams available in our local community in which our teens can enroll in. Even anyone with no skills at all can join and play in some of the leagues while other teams are very competitive. Getting out and around for a softball game, soccer game, and even volleyball could be a superb way for the family to do something together and the games and practices are opportunities for your teen to be active.

Lawn work is an alternate way to get out and get active with your teen. The key, as always, is in your teen burning more calories than he / she consumers. It is often tough but it's fairly simple when you work to get them venture out. Find things which will be exciting to your teen and focusing on those as opposed to torturing them with activities that carry no interest at all (well maybe not the yard work). Anyways, filling their time with activities is also allowing time they are not consuming calories as well and that is something worthwhile considering.

Really encourage your teen to eat healthier foods. Reduce calorie-loaded sods, juice drinks, and energy drinks from your pantry shelves, and encourage your teens to drink lots of water everyday. Introduce as many veggies as is possible to the diet of your teens and get rid of packaged convenience foodstuffs that teens are notorious for depleting in a single sitting. Also having your teens actively have fun playing the preparation and clean up for meals will help them pay more attention to the things they put into their mouths and also the messes they make in the process.
